The Ultimate Guide to Your Epic San Antonio Bachelor Party awaits! Steeped in rich Mexican-American culture, San Antonio attracts travelers of all ages and interests with diverse offerings of history and urban enticement. My first trip to San Antonio occurred during the summer of 2021. We left New York with 10 bros for my older brother’s bachelor party. Unfortunately, Covid restrictions prevented our initial travel plans to New Orleans. We therefore decided to pivot and explore this trending destination. Particularly for a destination bachelor party with buddies flying in from around the country, discovering the right balance between structure and spontaneity is important when determining how best to spend everyone’s time and money. Keep reading to discover my Ultimate Guide to Your Epic San Antonio Bachelor Party!
Stay on the Riverwalk
The San Antonio Riverwalk is the cultural hub of the city and a wildly popular destination for all travelers. Lodging on the Riverwalk fully immerses your party in the energy of this one of a kind attraction from the moment you open the door. Enticing bars and restaurants flourish along the polished stone walkways of the downtown San Antonio River. Furthermore, the downtown Riverwalk permits OPEN CONTAINER. Thus, your party can feel free to peruse this picturesque region of the city with their favorite beverage in hand. We stayed at the Holiday Inn San Antonio-Riverwalk. The Holiday Inn provided relatively cheap accommodations and had a small pool with hot tub. Most importantly, it offered instant walkable access to the downtown Riverwalk.
Enjoy the Culture
San Antonio is steeped in history and has a culture all its own. Whether you want to remember the Alamo or spend an afternoon exploring Spanish Colonial missions, San Antonio offers cultural attractions to interest all travelers. The individuals in our bachelor party had never visited San Antonio before. We therefore shared an interest in experiencing the top cultural highlights the city had to offer. From our base at the Holiday Inn, attractions such as The Alamo, El Mercado historic market square, GO RIO San Antonio River Cruises (upon which you can also bring your own alcohol), and the Tower of the Americas were all easily walkable. The San Antonio Missions also serve as a very popular cultural destination. I would highly recommend booking a bike tour to best experience this attraction. You will be treated to a scenic riverside ride through the San Antonio Missions Historic National Park.
Plan a Bar Crawl
Bar crawls enable your crew to sample multiple cool spots and add a fun tempo to your day. My brother loves breweries – thus planning a brewery laden bar crawl allowed our group to efficiently try multiple local brews as well as explore a different part of the city. Our crawl included an initial stop at Maverick Brewing and Distillery for lunch (call ahead to see if you can get the private room). This was followed by Back Upturned Brewing Company, Roadmap Brewing Company, and we concluded with Alamo Beer Company. We were able to walk from the hotel to each brewery. When the booze hit and we could no longer walk, we ubered back from Alamo Beer Co to the Holiday Inn. If you’re looking for an even more laid back and catered experience,
consider a craft cruiser brewery or winery tour. Other recommended watering holes include Bier Garten (near the Alamo), The Esquire Tavern on the Riverwalk, and, of course, Coyote Ugly. St Mary’s strip was locally recommended as a great late night/bar hopping spot as well.
Savor the Local Fare
World renowned for culinary expertise, San Antonio boasts some of the finest and most eclectic dining in the US. Your bachelor party would be remiss to not embrace the opportunity that San Antonio cuisine offers. For the foodies in your group, a nicer meal with a cool ambiance can be found at Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery, in the historic Pearl District. You can find a multitude of other well reviewed
restaurants in the Pearl district as well as while perusing the Riverwalk. San Antonio particularly prides itself on exceptional Tex-Mex and BBQ. We specifically enjoyed Rosario’s Mexican Cafe and Cantina as well as Pinkerton’s Barbeque, which was personally my favorite meal of the weekend. For breakfast and coffee, we stumbled upon La Panadería Bakery Café and became obsessed. It’s worth mentioning that when we went back to La Panadería a second time, the line was out the door and down the street!
Get Out and Adventure!
Bachelor parties provide a great opportunity to reconnect with friends and loved ones in a fun, engaging manner. Drinking, dinners, and dancing will likely consume a decent amount of your time. But, planning some other activities and adventure is essential to a maximally memorable experience. Our 4 days in San Antonio were unfortunately cursed with heavy rains, thunderstorms, and overall terrible weather. These regrettable conditions obviously limited our ability to plan certain well reviewed excursions. One such excursion included renting a party bus for tubing in New Braunfels or San Marcos. Nonetheless, we were blessed with a small window of sun and were still able to thoroughly enjoy a morning touring the San Antonio Missions with Mission Adventure Tours. We rented a mix of conventional and electric bikes and had a blast zipping around
scenic riverside trails. We were guided via bluetooth earpieces on a tour of each mission and the scenic Missions Historic National Park. San Antonio holds many other opportunities outside the main downtown area. Should your group choose to explore beyond the city center, consider having two to three activities near one another to best manage your time. Depending on your vibe, top attractions include Natural Bridge Caverns, X-factor paintball park, the San Antonio Zoo, countless museums, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, or getting a bachelor party package at K1 Speed. I hope you enjoyed my guide to your epic San Antonio Bachelor Party and that you find yourself there soon!
